SINUSITIS–

NATURAL MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL

                                                  what is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is the inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses (fluid-filled pockets in the face).

It happens when these pockets become blocked and filled with fluid, allowing germs to grow and cause an infection.

 Common Causes

  • Common cold or viral infections

  • Allergic rhinitis (allergies to dust, pollen, or pets)

  • Nasal polyps (small growths in the nose)

  • Deviated septum (shift in the nasal cavity)

  • Sudden changes in weather or pollution

 Common Symptoms

  • Facial pain or pressure (around eyes, cheeks, and forehead)

  • Nasal congestion (stuffy nose)

  • Thick, discolored nasal discharge

  • Reduced sense of smell and taste

  • Headache and sometimes toothache

 Lifestyle Role

  • Maintaining hydration thins the mucus

  • Avoiding cold, damp environments reduces triggers

  • Steam inhalation acts as a natural decongestant

  • Keeping the nasal passages clear and moist is the primary goal.

 Tests (If Needed)

  • Nasal Endoscopy – to look inside the nasal passages

  • CT Scan – if chronic or structural issues are suspected

  • Allergy Testing – to identify environmental triggers

 Naturopathy Management (With Home Remedies)

  • These remedies can be safely done at home unless advised otherwise:

  • Steam Inhalation: Inhale steam with a drop of Eucalyptus oil for 5–10 mins

  • Warm Compress: Place a warm cloth over the nose and cheeks to relieve pain

  • Jal Neti: (Under guidance) Nasal rinsing with lukewarm saline water

  • Golden Milk: Milk with turmeric and a pinch of black pepper to reduce inflammation

  • Tulsi & Ginger Tea: Drink 2–3 times a day to clear the respiratory tract

  • Garlic: Include raw garlic in food for its natural anti-bacterial properties

 Yoga & Pranayama (Home Practice)

Simple practices that can be done at home:

  • Cleansing Exercises

  • Kapalbhati – helps clear the frontal sinuses

  • Jalandhara Bandha (under guidance)

Yoga Asanas

  • Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Dog) – improves circulation to the face

  • Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand) – helps drainage (avoid if pain is acute)

  • Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) – opens the chest and lungs

  • Pranayama

  • Anulom Vilom – 10 minutes (balances airflow in both nostrils)

  • Bhramari – 5–7 rounds (the vibrations help clear sinus blockages)

  • Surya Bhedana – to generate heat and dry excess mucus

 Daily Care Tips

  • Drink plenty of warm fluids throughout the day

  • Use a humidifier if the air in your room is very dry

  • Avoid cold water, ice creams, and refrigerated foods

  • Keep your head elevated while sleeping

 Important Note

  • Do not perform Jal Neti if the nose is completely blocked

  • Seek medical help if you have a high fever or vision changes

  • Consult a doctor if symptoms last more than 10 days
